Rev. Kirby, 90, a native of Spartanburg County, SC, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School where he was in the high school Football Hall of Fame. He was employed at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home in Gaffney, SC. He graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Following graduation, he served as minister in the following churches: New Hope Baptist Church in Earl, NC, First Baptist church in Carthage, NC, and retired from Double Springs Baptist Church where he served for 21 years. Following his retirement, Double Springs named him as their Pastor Emeritus. He also performed interim work at many churches after his retirement. Rev. Kirby was presently a member at Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
Rev. Kirby was preceeded in death by his parents Rev. Clarence Aubrey Kirby Sr. & Rose Kirby. He was also preceeded in death by two brothers Harold Kirby & Ray Kirby and two sisters Virginia Alcorn & Rubye Cash.
Rev. Kirby is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Kaatherine Humphries Kirby of the home, two daughters and their husbands Brenda Clary & Wayne, of Florence, SC, and Mary Parker & David of Shelby, two sons Roy Kirby & Barbara of Shelby and Budd Kirby of Charlotte, NC.
Rev. Kirby is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Carroll Page, senior pastor of Boiling Spring Baptist Church.
