Robert Fite

Mr. Fite, 88, of 129 McBrayer Homestead Rd., Shelby, NC passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, NC, he was a member of Lattimore Baptist Church where he was a member of the Adult Choir, a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Secretary for a number of years. He graduated from Lattimore High School, and served in the U. S. Army Air Force from 1942 - 1945. He was a Staff Sgt. during World War II and was an Air Traffic Controller. Mr. Fite was a self-employed plumber who faithfully served his customers for 60 years. Mr. Fite loved his family, friends, and Church and was known for his Easter Bunny cakes that he baked and gave away for fifty years. Mr. Fite was preceeded in death by his parents N.J. Fite & Nettie Hawkins Fite, and two brothers George Fite and Henry Fite. Mr. Fite is survived by his wife of 63 years Kathleen Callahan Fite of the home, a son and his wife Robert Fite & Elaine of Boiling Springs, a daughter and her husband Ann Jones & Steve of Shelby, two brothers Jim Fite and wife Polly of Lattimore, and Mac Fite of Kannapolis. Mr. Fite's grandchildren are two grandsons David Jones & Beth of Shelby, Joey Fite of Greenville, NC, step- grandson Chris Mode & Laura of Mooresboro, step-granddaughter Jesi Lovell & Todd of Lowell, NC, great granddaughter Ansley Jones and a step great grandson Aarom Lovell. In addition to these Mr. Fite is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The Fite family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Calvin Caunt, Dr. Jim Potts, and the Staff at Hospice at Wendover. Funeral Services will be conducted by Dr. Colones Max Burgin and Rev.
