Robert (Bob) Blanton

Mr. Robert (Bob) Eugene Blanton, 93, passed away Sunday December 4, 2022 while at Atrium Healthcare-Cleveland.

Born in Cleveland County on August 27, 1929, Mr. Blanton was the son of the late John Samuel Blanton, Sr and Garva Ella Harrill Blanton. He was also preceded in death by six siblings: Beatrix, Annette, Jesse, John, Jr., Ken, and Harrill (Bus).

He is survived by one sister, Sarah Caroline Blanton Dedmon.

Bob graduated from Gardner-Webb Junior College, UNC at Chapel Hill with a degree in broadcasting production Florida State, and the University of South Florida.

He was a band director at Lakeland High School in Florida and Sedgefield Jr. High in Charlotte, NC.

He was an accomplished soloist and took part in the music programs at all of the churches he attended throughout his lifetime. Bob was a member of the Oratorio Singers in Charlotte, NC, the Cleveland County Choral Society, and the Cecilia Music Club in Shelby, NC.

He was instrumental in raising money for the youth at Lattimore Baptist Church, and the Lattimore Folk Festival. Bob also initiated and organized the annual Fourth of July parade in Lattimore, NC.

Bob was an avid water skier and taught most of his nieces and nephews how to ski.

As you can surmise from this article, Bob led a very accomplished life, and now he has gone home to live with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mr. Blanton served in The United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

A Funeral service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Lattimore Baptist Church, Rev. Buddy Morehead and Rev. Hammond Coats will be officiating. The family will receive friends one-hour prior beginning at 1pm at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
