Mr. Ronald "Ron" Baxter Vickers, 71 of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth "Betsy" Gillespie Vickers of the home, a son, Steven Vickers and wife Shellie of Kings Mountain, NC, a daughter, Amy McDaniel and husband Jamie of Shelby, NC, two grandchildren, Macy and Cayden McDaniel, two sisters, Teresa Hutchins and husband Von and Susan Martin and husband Elvis, both of Rutherford County, NC, his loving dog "Sugar", numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Born March 22, 1946 in Rutherford County, Mr. Vickers was the son of the late L.R. "Pete" and Lucile Reinhardt Vickers and was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Dean Vickers and a sister, Clara Mae Wood.
Ron loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, who always brought a smile to his face. He enjoyed working on cars and attending auto races. Ron was an active member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Trexler. A visitation will be held from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Building Fund, 1227 Mt Sinai Church Rd, Shelby, NC 28152 or to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150.
