Ruby Irene Gourley, age 82, of Shelby, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Wendover Hospice House. A native of Cleveland County she is the daughter of the late Joseph Champion Hardin and Naome Ferrel Bowen Hardin. She worked and later retired from J & C Dying as a winder tender. Mrs. Gourley loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved gardening, working in the yard, and cooking. She was a member of Elliott Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Homer Gourley; son, Harley Dale Owens; four brothers, Jacob L. Hardin, Edward Eugene Hardin, Herman Hardin, and an infant brother; one sister, Mae Jackson; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She is survived by five daughters, Deborah Melton and husband Leroy of Shelby, Reda Burns and husband Russell of Clover, SC., Rhonda Smith and husband Danny of Waco, Fonda Grayson and fiancé John Cook of New Jersey, and Sandra Denise Yancey and husband Billy of Shelby; one step-son, Wayne Gourley Jr. of Statesville; one brother, Floyd Hardin of Mauldin, SC; two sisters, Edith Stroupe of Shelby and Pearl Godfrey of Augusta, GA; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchildren.
