Ruth G. Champion

 Mrs. Mae Ruth Guthrie Champion, age 89 of Shelby, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

 She is survived by her two children, Phil Champion (Sandy) of Shelby, NC, and Julie Champion Lowery (Stan) of Shelby, NC, nine grandchildren, Philip Champion Jr. (Melissa Martin) of Belmont, NC, Will Champion (Madi Ives) of Greenville, NC, Douglas Lowery Jr. (Danielle) of Shelby, NC, Catherine Lowery of Shelby, NC, Jennifer Lowery McSwain (Chad) of Kings Mountain, NC, Jessica Lowery Fowler (Wesley) of Cherryville, NC, Ashley Hendrick of Shelby, NC, Laura Hendrick Hoyle (Clifton) of Monroe, NC, and Conan Doyle Hendrick of Harrisburg, NC, eleven great grandchildren, Matthew Lowery, Olivia Lowery, Ava Mae Lowery, Sage Hendrick, C.D. Hendrick, Waylon Hendrick, Ellie Hoyle, Taylor McSwain, Kayla McSwain, Jordan Fowler, and Makenzie Fowler, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Champion Hoppes.

 Born June 9, 1935, in Cleveland County, NC, Ruth was the daughter of the late William Thomas Guthrie and Mattie Ethel Mauney Guthrie and was preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Bill” Thomas Champion Jr., a daughter, Ellen Ruth Champion Hendrick, and a sister, Mary Guthrie Smith.

 Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a faithful member of Aldersgate UMC. Ruth worked and retired from First National Bank after 27 years of service. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, cooking, spending time with her family and friends. 

  A visitation will be held from 1:00pm - 2:00pm Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Aldersgate UMC in Shelby. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm following the visitation at the church conducted by Rev. Randy Blanton. A burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
