Mrs. Sara McSwain Ledbetter, age 85 of Shelby, NC, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Wendover Hospice House. A visitation will be held from 1:30 - 3:00 pm prior to the service at the Church. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Friday, May 1, 2015 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Paul Sorrells, Rev. Phil Hughes, and Dr. Robert Canoy. Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by two children, Barry Ledbetter and wife Kathy of Shelby, NC, and Patty Ledbetter Thorne and husband Bill of Biddle, MT, two grandsons, Craig Ledbetter of Charlotte, NC, and Keith Ledbetter and wife Tommi Beth of Candler, NC, two great grandchildren, Raelyn and Cainan Ledbetter, and a special niece, Debbie Ivester.
Born April 28, 1930 in Shelby, NC, Mrs. Ledbetter was the daughter of the late Clyde and Olive (McMurry) McSwain and was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Carl Barzillia Ledbetter, two brothers, Jack and Clyde McSwain, and a sister, Betty McSwain Crosby.
Sara graduated from Lattimore High School in 1948. She retired from the Cleveland County Schools. Sara was a lifelong member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and the McCurry-Esther Sunday School Class and former President of the JOY Group where she participated in the Homebound Visitation Ministry. Sara was also a member of the Cleveland County Rose Society. She enjoyed gardening, homemaking, and spending time with her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 123 Beaver Dam Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152 or to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28152.
