Selma Brooks

Selma Walker Brooks, age 95 of Shelby, died Monday, January 17, 2022 at her home surrounded by her children.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth Brooks and wife Diane of Shelby, NC, two daughters, Susan White and husband Dan of Loganville, GA, and Norma Lynch and husband Mike of Orange Beach, AL.

She is also survived by six loving grandchildren (great grandchildren) Michael Brooks and wife Beth (Sophia and Gunner); David Brooks and wife Laura (Connor, Corbin, and Collin); Haley Harmon and husband David (Henry and Brooks); Kevin Leonard and wife Sarah (Gavin); Paul Hopper and wife Hillary (Virginia, Jamison, and Nora); and Nicolas White.

The daughter of the late John Walker and Dora Earley Walker, Selma retired with 32 years of service with BellSouth.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Thomas G. Brooks, her brothers, Robert Walker and Harold Gene Walker, and her twin brother, Joseph Walker.

She was a member of the Rutherford County Extension and Community Service, The Ellenboro Women’s Club, and The Telephone Pioneers of America.  She has been an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC, and was an active participant with the Bereavement Committee there.  The last 13 years of her life, she enjoyed being part of the Spring Forest Community in Boiling Springs.

A visitation will be held from 9:30am – 11:00 am Friday, January 21, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro.  Funeral services will be held following the visitation at 11:00am.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Carolina Foothills, 374 Hudlow Road, Forest City, NC, 28043, in honor of Chrissy Lail, Hospice nurse and friend.
