Mr. Harris, 74, of Ellenboro, NC, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. A native of Rutherford County, he was born November 19, 1937 to the late Reverend Lee Baxter "L.B" and Ocie Mary McCraw Harris. Having been raised in a working family he, like the rest of his family had many jobs over the years. H worked as an umpire for 25 years, Ester Mill, J & C Dying, Carolina Throwing, Pharr Yarns, the Old Beaver Dam Store , and he also owned and operated Carol's Attic and a Rug Mill for 18 years. He loved to watch westerns, going to the flea market and was an avid sports fan. Sherril loved the Yankees and the Tarheels. He was a lifetime member of Campfield Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Brooks Harris; six sisters, Mary Jo Jolley, Kathleen Murray, Frances Bridges, Jeanette Greene, Lucille Curtis and Marilyn Harris; six brothers, B. J. Harris, Paul L. Harris Sr., Ernest Harris, Frank Harris, Hurbert Zacorious Harris and Gerald Harris. Survivors include his wife of 35 years Carol C. Harris; three daughters, Cathy Harris Robertson and husband Bill of Patterson Springs, NC, Robin Gettys of Boiling Springs and Traci Humphries of Ellenboro; four sons, Douglas Sherril Harris and wife Beverly of Wallace, NC, Todd Langley and wife Annette of Greenwood, SC, Kevin Langley and wife Renee of Forest City and Scott Harris and wife Robin of Shelby, one brother Earl Harris and wife Janie of Ellenboro; 14 Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Scott Huffman, pastor of Campfield Memorial Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Campfield Memorial Baptist Church, 369 Campfield Church Rd, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
