Shirley Poteat

SHELBY - Shirley Deaton Poteat, 77, passed away April 30, 2014. Mrs. Poteat was born July 25, 1936, in Hall County, Ga., and retired due to her health from Hoechst Celanese in Shelby as a machine operator. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Harrison (O.H.) Deaton and Essie Mae Cain Deaton; son, John Robert Poteat, Jr.; and sister, Ruenette Whitaker.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie Mathis and David of Lattimore; brothers, Hoyt Deaton, Robert Deaton and Royce Deaton, all of Shelby; sisters, Vonciel Pridmore of Gaffney, S.C., Barbara Blanchard of Spartanburg, S.C., Betty Lanning of Shelby and Mildred Keller of Shelby; granddaughter, Kristin Mathis of Shelby; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cleveland Funeral Services & Crematory.
Graveside service: 3 p.m. Saturday at Cleveland Memorial Park
