Sonja Vandervort

Mrs. Sonja Melton Vandervort, 51, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2021.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Daniel Vandervort of Mooresboro, NC, a daughter, Kayce Vandervort and fiancé Justin Armour, of Mooresboro, NC, a son, Hayden “Bubba” Vandervort and girlfriend Kylie Peterson of Ellenboro, NC, her mother, Violet Terry Melton of Shelby, NC, a brother, Joel Melton and wife Doris of Mooresboro, NC, two nephews, Paul Melton and Josh Melton, two nieces, Bridget Hinds and Nikki Hartman, and her beloved grandpups.

Born in Cleveland County, NC on April 19, 1970, Sonja was the daughter of the late, James Robert Melton. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joey Melton.

Sonja enjoyed taking trips to the beach with her family, as well as date nights with her friends to catch a dinner and show. Sonja loved cooking for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her big heart and putting everyone else before herself.

Funeral services will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church on Saturday, July 10th, 2021 at 4:00pm. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. A burial will follow at Gantts Grove Baptist Church.
