Mr. Ronald Steve Eskridge, 68, of 429 Old Boiling Springs Road was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday July 31, 2008. Steve was raised in Lawndale, NC and graduated from Piedmont High School. Shortly after marring his wife he moved to Shelby and started a family. Steve was a long time member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He was a Deacon, meber of the Men's Sunday School Class, Choir Member, Usher, Athletic event participant and supporter, and he served on numerous church committees. Steve also enjoyed being a part of several adult mission trips. He was a member of the Shanghai Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years
Steve was formerly employed at Cleveland Mills, PPG Industries for over 40 years and Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He was a member of the staff of Cleveland Funeral Services since their opening in 1997. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was also an avid golfer and he loved to participate and attend sporting events.
Steve was a man who placed God first and his family and friends before himself. He was known to never have met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. His infectious smile and overall happy demeanor helped him create many years of strong relationships with his family, friends and co-workers. Steve could always find the light side of most any situation and was known for helping and offeriing encouragement of others. He was a fine husband, a great father and a friend to all. He will be greatly missed.
Steve was preceeded in death by his parents; James "Dutch" Marion Eskridge and Grace Inez Hamrick Eskridge, and his mother in law Emma Hamrick.
Steve is survived by his wife of 48 years Elnora Hamrick Eskridge of the home, a son and his wife Jeffery Eskridge and Rebecca of Lattimore, NC, two daughters and their husbands, Kim Litton and Pat of Boiling Springs, NC, Penny Melton and Robert of Shelby, NC. Steve'a grandchildren are; Kasey Eskridge, Tanner Eskridge, Jake Litton, Zach Melton, Nick Melton, Steven Inman and Keith Inman and wife Alexis, and one great grandson Aiden Inman. In adition to these Steve is also survived by his father-in-law James Marvin Hamrick of Shelby, and special friends Randy & Brenda Mull, and Hugh & Carolyn Bess.
