Suzy Hedrick Buckner, 76, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 5, 2021, after winning her faith-filled, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Suzy loved her God and all things He created, especially her family, music, her church, young people, and children, and all the beauties of the natural world. Suzy built her career as a primary education teacher where she was loved by her students and fellow teachers. She especially treasured the long relationship she shared with her co-workers, Debbie, Sue, and Brenda. She worked side-by-side with her husband, Clyde, in their ministry with children, young people, choirs and senior adults at their church. Suzy was exceedingly rich in the gifts of kindness, service, hospitality, and discernment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Rachel Hedrick, and by her sister and brother-in-law, Sonja and Allen Jones.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clyde Buckner, by her children: Danny (Jennifer) Buckner and Karla (Doug) Francis, and by her grandchildren, Emma, Mary Jane, and Laura Anne. She is also survived by brothers Karl (Jessie) Hedrick and Jimmy (Diann) Hedrick, and by sisters: Amelia (Wakefield) Hamrick, and Gin-G (Fred) Edwards. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews will also cherish her memory.
A celebration of her life will be held at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Shelby on Saturday, June 12, at 4:00pm. A visitation will follow the service in the church’s Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone wishing to make a memorial offering do so to the music, youth and children’s ministry of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 1106 Poplar Springs Church Rd. Shelby, NC 28152 or to Wendover Hospice of Cleveland County, 953 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
We, her husband, children, and grandchildren, express our deep gratitude to the host of family and friends, including Cheryl, Mitzi, and Rachel, who have nourished us with your prayers, love, and countless expressions of care during these final months of Suzy’s earthly journey.
