Talmadge Cobb Strickland, Jr., well known contractor in Shelby passed away November 4, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Hall County, GA on July 29, 1928. He founded T.C. Strickland Construction Company in 1952 and Strickland Blanton, LLC in 1988. He was a former member of Eastside Baptist Church and current member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He loved fishing, particularly with his friends and family in Alaska. He relished any opportunity to "fix" anything. He was known for his generosity with various charities especially those benefitting children. He served on the Shelby Housing Board.
T.C. was preceded in death by his parents T.C. and Jurell Strickland of Fallston, N.C.; his daughter, Dr. Charley Strickland Wood, and her husband Bill Wood of York, S.C.; his brother John Allen Strickland of Fallston, N.C. and his sister Louise Strickland Harrelson of Fallston, N.C.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jo Anne Ivester Strickland.; a son T.C. (Chuck) Strickland, III and his wife Leslie of Shelby; and their sons Talmadge C. Strickland, IV and his wife Dorothy and daughter Bailey; and J. Michael Strickland and his wife Alyson. A daughter, Toni Strickland D'Arcy of Parker, Colorado and her husband. Dr. Clyde G D'Arcy and their triplets, Mattie, Morgan, and Jeremiah. Grandchildren Annslee and Lex Windell of York, S.C., who are the children of the late Dr. Charley Strickland Wood. His brother, Terrell Strickland of Belwood and Anne Strickland Kelly of Garner, N.C.
