Thomas Roderick Gillis, 87, passed away peacefully in his home on May 8, 2019.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joyce Faye Gillis, a daughter Connie Goldberg and husband Daniel of Panama, NY, three sons, Thomas Roderick Gillis of Mooresboro, NC, Timothy Ray Gillis and wife JoAnne of Gowanda, NY, Todd Martin Gillis and wife Michelle of Mooresboro, NC, twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Mr. Gillis was born on December 21, 1931 in Erie County, NY to Raymond Archibald and Bertha Martin Gillis. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Bertie Draggert, Margaret Hoffman, Dorothy Gillis, Mary Shepherd, a brother, Edward Gillis, and a grandson, Dennis Bogart.
Mr. Gillis was affectionately known as Rod to his family and friends. He proudly served 3 years in the United States Navy aboard LST 531. Rod enjoyed working over 60 years as the owner and operator of Gillis Bros. Well Drilling. Mr. Gillis was member of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and Celeron American Legion Post 777. Joyce and Rod enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. He looked forward to spending his winters in Florida with his wife. Rod also loved spending time with his family and playing horseshoes at the camp he built in Busti, New York.
A Memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
