Virgil Holiday, age 84 of Shelby, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Atrium Health in Shelby.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Leona Jewell Holiday of the home; four sons, Terry Holiday (Brenda), Kevin Holiday (Miranda), Darin Holiday (April) and David Holiday (Lisa), all of Shelby, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Terra Holiday Dover (Billy), Brooke Holiday Allen (Dustin), Brett Holiday, Lindsey Holiday, Ryan Holiday, Miriah Layne Holiday, Mikayla Holiday Modirzadeh (Christian), Rachel Holiday, Seth Holiday, Aiden Holiday, Ava Holiday, all of Shelby, NC, Kerr Holiday and Jude Holiday, both of Atlanta, GA; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Landon Dover of Shelby, NC; a daughter-in-law, Tabaitha Holiday of Shelby, NC; a brother, Dean Holiday (Gyp), and two sisters, Norma Jean Holmer and Josephine Rowe, all of Willard, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born July 24, 1936 in Carey, Ohio, Virgil was the son of the late Oscar and Camilla Mills Holiday and was preceded in death by a son, Tim Holiday, and eleven brothers and sisters.
A humble man, beloved father and husband, Virgil loved people, never met a stranger, and counted everyone as an equal. He loved to make people laugh, loved to raise a garden, but didn’t love to weed it. Virgil was the founder and owner/operator of Shelby Tree Service for more than 30 years.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Cleveland Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Allen Holiday.
