W. Fergusson

Mr. Fergusson, of Chapin, SC, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 at his home, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Born in Richmond, VA., he was the son of the late W. E. Fergusson Jr. & the late Carrie Holmes Fergusson. Bill was a graduate of the University of Richmond and Central Michigan University and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church. He had a love for music and touched the lives of many with his sense of humor. Bill was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Bank Auditor (CBA). He retired from South Carolina National Bank as Executive Vice President of Statewide Operations in 1982 and again in 1999 from the South Carolina Department of Revenue as the Director of Internal Audit. Bill also served as a distinguished lecturer of Accounting at the University of South Carolina from 1982-1988. Bill was active in the Institute of Management Accounting (IMA) and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)for more than 50 years. He served the IMA Columbia Chapter in numerous director positions including Chapter President and served on the IMA National Board of Directors. Bill was one of the founding members of the IIA Columbia Chapter. He also served on the Lexington Richland District #5 School Board for eight years. Bill is survived by his wife of 23 years, Janice Hamrick Fergusson; a son Bruce Fergusson (Robin) of Lexington, KY,; two daughters, Bonnie Fergusson of Charlotte, and Molly Stuart (Kevin) of Ozford, MISS.; a brother , Ernest Wesley Fergusson of Richmond, VA., five grandchildren , Sarah Fergusson of Los Angeles, CA, Smithe and Ethan Stuart of Oxford, MISS., and Jessica and Bryan Leifeld of Lexington, KY. Bill is also survived by his mother-in-law Mildred S. Hamrick of Shelby, NC, and a sister-in-law Annette H. Bridges also of Shelby, NC. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Phil Purser, Rev. Blaney Pridgen and Rev. Richard Rowe. Memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, P. O.
