Walter Mathis

July 27, 1938 — April 14, 2009

Mr. Mathis, better known as "Peanut", 70, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he had worked at P. P. G. & Duke Power as an electrician and also worked in security. He was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Forest City.

Mr. Mathis was preceeded in death by his parents Arthur Mathis & Willie Marie Campbell Mathis, one brother and three sisters.

Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife Dorrene Morgan Mathis of the home, a son Bobby Lee Mathis of Boiling Springs, NC, a daughter and her husband Barbara Bryant & Fred of Shelby, a step-son Robert Michael Hampton of Kings Mountain, a step-daughter Celeste Marie Hampton of Florida. He is also survived by a grandson Barry Lee Bryant of Shelby, and a great granddaughter Keely Bryant of Mooresboro, and a great grandson Carter Lee Bryant of Shelby.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Bob Belford.
