Mr. William Thomas Gibbs, age 80 of Shelby, NC, passed away peacefully April 2, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, April 6, 2015 at First Wesleyan Church in Shelby conducted by Rev. David Costner and Rev. Eddie Gray. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Joyce Davis Gibbs of the home, a daughter, Lynn Gibbs of Shelby, NC, four grandchildren, Wayne Ledbetter II and wife Jennifer of Boiling Springs, NC, Tiffany Chapman and husband Donnie of Shelby, NC, Christopher Ledbetter and wife Heather of Blacksburg, SC, and Shandi Gibbs of Shelby, NC, eight great grandchildren, Madison Mathis, Matthew, Brayden, and Gavin Ledbetter, Meysen, Brysen, and Carsen Chapman, and Corbin Ledbetter, three brothers, Arnold Gibbs and wife Freda of Shelby, NC, Robert Gibbs and wife Suzanne of Lattimore, NC, and Kenneth Gibbs of Shelby, NC, a special niece, Tia Gibbs Dabboussi of Dubai, and a special dog, Bendi.
Born August 24, 1934 in Cleveland Co., Mr. Gibbs was the son of the late Burgin and Corrine (Greene) Gibbs and was preceded in death by a son, William Reggie Gibbs and a sister, Madge Ramsaur. William owned and operated Gibbs Equipment for more than 35 years. He enjoyed flying, farming, fishing, riding his motorcycle, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends.
