Willie R. Walker, 81, of Shelby, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Kings Mountain Hospice. A native of Rutherford County, he is the son of the late Freeman Walker and Janie Hutchins Walker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Violet A. Walker and his second wife Alma P. Walker. He was also preceded in death by his beautiful daughter Beverly Avis Walker; three brothers, John Walker, Thomas Walker and Matthew Walker; one sister, Ruby Scoggins.
Mr. Walker loved playing and singing bluegrass and country music. He played the banjo, guitar, piano, mandolin and many other musical instruments. He worked for Parkdale Mills in Kings Mountain for many years.
He is survived by four sons, Larry Walker and wife Becky of Kings Mountain, Steve Walker and wife Linda of Lawndale, Mike Walker of Patterson Springs and Keith Walker and wife Tracy of Gastonia; five daughters, Brenda Richards and husband Johnny of Shelby, Sandra Hartley of Bostic, Theresa Holtz and husband Ed of Shelby, Annette Bacca and husband Jeff of Kings Mountain and Rene Willis and husband Ronnie of Kings Mountain; one step-son, Randy Allen and wife Carolyn of Rutherfordton; two honorary daughters, Jackie Hoey and husband Bobby of Shelby and Kristie Camp of Shelby; one honorary sister, Rose Borders of Shelby; two brothers, Paul Walker and Andrew Walker; one sister, Betty Mims; 29 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
The family wants to extend a special thanks to the staff of Kings Mountain Hospice, Louise Falter, Dorothy Reynolds, Whitney White, Rhonda Hunley, Pam Rice, Beth Hamrick, Sharon Forbes, Stephanie Lane, Carol Baughman, Melissa Bridges, Dr. Potts, Dr. Patel and Dr. Costa Andreau.
